We have started a fund to send future champions to World Festival.
We have been trying to raise awareness of FLL at the State
level since our state organization,
FIRSTWA, is currently severely under funded.
Our group has adopted a
FLL team from Afghanistan, the Kite Runners. We have been able to support
them by paying their registration, getting them the NXT robotics kit and field
setup for this year’s challenge, getting them laptop computer, and getting them
a couple of NXT robot kits. We worked to help the Kite Runners to be able
to participate in the WA State Championship via web cam and the internet. For
their project portion of the competition, they were able to help a very poor
Afghan family to get power as well as to insulate their home. The Kite Runners
too have been invited to World Festival and are in need of financing for travel
expenses. To read more about their project and to support them to travel
to Atlanta, please see
this page on the FIRSTWA website. There is a link on that page to
support the Kite Runners if you would like to help them. We hope that their
travel visa's go through easily. We hope to have the once in a lifetime
opportunity to be able to shake hands with our adopted team.

Last year was the kick off for the Junior FLL for ages 6-9 years old. This
year, we are sponsoring a Junior FLL group called the “Mini
Gnomes.”
We also held a FLL information night to get more people
involved in FLL and helped to start a brand new team.
